True or Not, the Prayer Speaks Truth

I don't know if this is a true story, and frankly I'm too lazy to verify it, but since I'm more interested in the prayer than the story about the prayer (which is that a minister prayed it at an opening session of his state's senate), I'm reprinting the text of the prayer that has been sent to me repeatedly in email, below.

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask
your forgiveness and to seek your direction and
guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those
who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we
have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed
our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it
the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it
welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it
choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it
justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our
children and called it building self esteem..

We have abused power and called it
politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions
and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and
pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values
of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts
today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Katie Couric asked Governor Palin this question:

COURIC: Do you believe evolution should be taught as an accepted scientific principle or one of several theories?

Here's Palin's answer:

PALIN: Oh, I think it should be taught as an accepted principle. And, you know, I say that also as the daughter of a school teacher, a science teacher, who has really instilled in me a respect for science. It should be taught in our schools. And I won't ever deny that I see the hand of God in this beautiful creation that is Earth. But that is not part of a policy or a local curriculum in a school district. Science should be taught in science class.

Evolution should be taught as a principle of science? Wait a minute. Just to be sure I wasn't misunderstanding the principle of the word principle, I looked it up:

Principle:\Èprin(t)-s(Y-)pYl, -sY-bYl\ 1 a: a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine, or assumption b (1): a rule or code of conduct

So much for Palin the creationist. "I see the hand of God in this beautiful creation that is Earth." What a cop out. If Palin were a creationist, she would have answered, "In a perfect world, which is how God created it before man sinned and screwed it all up, evolution would be taught as a failed principle - one that in no way follows any known law of science, including the 1st and 2nd law of thermodynamics. The creation of life, which evolutionists say arose by chance without any Intelligent Designer of any kind mind you, has not been duplicated by even the most intelligent scientists who have for years spent millions of dollars in failed attempts to develop life from non living matter. Their attempts only prove that life cannot arise from non-life. Real science, to whom I am a friend - repeatable, retestable, operational science, actually points in another direction - a downward spiral of genetic mistakes that in no way add information to the genome, which is exactly the opposite of what evolution requires to work. No, evolution is not working today, and allow me to knock down some straw-man arguments while I have this rare opportunity to straighten America out - crop eating grasshoppers who are "building up a resistance to pesticides" is not proof of evolution any more than wingless beetles on a remote island prove it; they always had that trait, and were the lucky few who did. This in no way supports molecules to man evolution. Nor does anything else we see today. Period. "So yes, I think evolution should be taught in schools - as a failed and flawed theory. And while I have your attention, we talk about Obama's support for Raila Odinga now?" She'd have my vote. Does Palin need another advisor?

An Impeccably Rational and Factual Faith

God, it is good to be able place my faith in something I can have confidence in - something that I can prove exists. Many people, good Christians included, say you cannot prove the Bible is true, but God makes it clear he will prove He is who He says He is by predicting future events. And He does. So when the so called "New Atheists," or "Brights" as they like to call themselves, (because they are so much smarter than you or I, or anyone engaged in religion, themselves ignoring the fact that atheism is also religion), when they claim that Christians are stupid, they are insulting men much smarter than me, and perhaps smarter than themselves - men like Sir Isaac Newton (Father of Universal Gravitation), Yohanne Kepler (Father of Physical Astronomy), Robert Boyle (Father of Modern Chemistry), and on and on. I doubt these great men would stoop to a level where name calling is preferred over debating and discussing the science they loved, spawned from their love of the Lord and his Creation. Sadly, science has turned from a search for truth in nature to an attempt to prove the existence of nature through naturalistic processes - without God. So is it a matter of brains? Or is it a matter of the will? The evidence is clearly seen, so man is "without excuse," (Romans 1:20) You have to put your faith somewhere, but putting your faith in the God of the Bible means there are some rules to follow. Some of us have chosen a broader path, one that lets us, with our finite minds, dictate what the rules should be, and not leave that up to an all knowing, all loving creator. Unfortunately, there's something wrong with that logic.

Expelled from Texas

Well, they did it. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has "Expelled" the Institute of Creation Research from offering their Graduate Degrees - not because their curriculum isn't rigorous enough - not because they don't teach operational science - but rather because they question evolution. This has occurred despite the approval of a THECB site team and committee, both recommending that ICR be accredited. However, the commissioner convened another advisory team - one that apparently agreed with his views, and denied the ICR accreditation of their Master of Science degrees. It's outrageous, but it's true. In partial response, the ICR has put out an ad in Texas newspapers last Sunday, and this link from their site asks users to "follow the evidence" to discover ICR's response, their purpose, and ultimately, the Truth.

Chimps and Humans

A recent article in Current Biology states that the DNA "gap" between chimps and humans is narrowing. However, the evidence states otherwise, and many evolutionary dogmas clung to just months ago are being dismissed by real science, such as the "chimp and human DNA shows 99% similarity" mantra of just a year ago. In fact, the overwhelming gulf in the difference between us continues to widen as more data is gathered. In addition, as stated by CMI,

One could make a strong case that chimpanzee intelligence doesn't even stand out in the animal world. Several parrots have displayed more developed linguistic capacities. A number of animals such as elephants, dolphins, woodpecker finches, and otters make and use tools--see Primates spearing primates. New Caledonian crows are actually more innovative in their tool making abilities than chimpanzees. Elephants display more a human-like emotional capacity, despite a much smaller relative brain size than chimpanzees--see Jumbo Minds. Pigs have performed better in some animal intelligence tests than chimpanzees--see Decoding the dogma of DNA similarity. Even fish have demonstrated a level of intelligence comparable to that of the great apes--see Fish challenge misconceptions. Yet, ultimately, it is humanity that studies, researches, and masters these magnificent creatures, not the other way around.

My kid is a primate

I wonder how many other pre schoolers and 1st graders know that evolution is a hoax and is not supportable by science. Certainly not enough. But you can be sure most of them already know they're a lot like apes. Last week I was reading one of my first grader's books about apes and monkeys, and lo and behold, there's a picture of a boy swinging on, what else, monkey bars, and below the picture the caption reads, "Primate." Whatever. And when I tried to skip another page that refers to humans as apes, my 1st grader called me on it - he wanted to know why I skipped that page. So from now on it's full disclosure. He will learn from me not only the right side of the story, but that in school, he will learn the wrong side of the story as well, and what makes the difference. On a related note, Gov Schwarzenegger signed SB 777 into law. In sum, 777 could lead to

the banishment of the words mom and dad and husband and wife in the classroom; boys being allowed to participate in girls sports, use girls restrooms, and girls locker rooms (and vice versa) if they have transgender issues; textbooks (whose publishers cater to the largest states like California and Texas) that positively portray homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgender people; and parents and students being accused of harassment for stating, for example, their belief that marriage is only for a man and woman.

How did all this evolution nonsense come about?

Darwin was not the originator of evolutionary theory. He was an enthusiastic advocate. So how did it all get started? First, let's look at the two premises on which the various theories of evolution are based:

1 - This is the evolutionary formula for making a universe:

Nothing + nothing = two elements + time = 92 natural elements + time = all physical laws and a completely structured universe of galaxies, systems, stars, planets, and moons orbiting in perfect balance and order.

2 - This is the evolutionary formula for making life:

Dirt + water + time = living creatures.

Evolutionists theorize that the above two formulas can enable everything about us to make itself--with the exception of man-made things, such as automobiles or buildings. Complicated things, such as wooden boxes with nails in them, require thought, intelligence, and careful workmanship. But everything else about us in nature (such as hummingbirds and the human eye) is declared to be the result of accidental mishaps, random confusion, and time. You will not even need raw materials to begin with. They make themselves too.

So again, how did all this nonsense get started?

This gift, however, seemed more like a Trojan horse, designed to gain an invitation inside so that the children's far-left leaning parents could rail against the war and the congressman's initial vote in support of it." The children's teacher, Valerie Coleman-Palansky, defended the stunt thusly: "I think it's appropriate for 3-year-olds to know that the world needs to be a peaceful place for everybody to live in and a safe place for everybody to live in." Perhaps it's time for Ms. Coleman-Palansky to acquaint herself with the Palestinian Mickey Mouse. There is a feedback response on AiG's web site today to a 16 year old Christian who thinks the young earth view is utterly "absurd." As usual, AiG's response is right on target. Responses like this from kids like this is why I am pushing Evolution Exposed on my pastors. This book is an excellent resource for high schoolers.

NBC to Kids: It Pays to be Gay

On NBC's premier of The Office last night, the Gay character (and what NBC show does not have a Gay character?) looks right at the camera at the end of the show and addresses the audience by saying this: "Kids, sometimes it pays to be gay." Kids? Sometimes it pays to boycott networks as well. And if you're in the boycottin' mood, boycot Citgo too.

It would be interesting to take a poll on which of the following prevailing evolutionary theories people subscribe to in regards to the reason the dinosaurs died out. The following are actual millions-of-years ideas as quoted from a book on the subject.

"On the other hand, they may have eaten too much and died of overeating! A further possibility is that there were too many meat-eating dinosaurs; they ate all the plant-eaters and then themselves died of hunger. One popular idea is that the little mammals of the Cretaceous were very fond of dinosaur eggs and ate so many of them that the dinosaurs died out. It has sometimes been suggested that the dinosaurs were poisoned. Other causes put forward include parasites, diseases, slipped discs, shrinking brain and greater stupidity, over-specialization and inability to change. The latest idea in 1982 is that the gradual warming of the earth led to premature cataract in the eyes of the dinosaurs; they eventually became blind and perished before they were old enough to reproduce. Among the even less likely causes suggested for the death of the dinosaurs are poison gases, volcanic dust, meteorites, comets, sunspots, God's will, mass suicide (like lemmings!) and wars. The last three causes that we shall mention are raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of even standing room for the dinosaurs in Noah's Ark, and sheer boredom with their prehistoric world. - Alan Charig, A New Look At The Dinosaurs, p. 151.

It reminds me of a quote from Shawshank Redemption: "How could you be so obtuse?" I wonder if the author ever had the following conversation with one of his colleagues regarding this dino debate: Author: Was it over eating? Under eating? Poisioning? Slipped discs? Increasing stupidity? Gradual blindness? Mass suicide? Maybe a combination? Colleague: Maybe a great flood followed by subsequent catastrophism? Author: WAIT A MINUTE! THAT IS ABSURD!!! DON'T MAKE ME LA-- Oh, you were joking? Oh that is a good one! You really had me going there! For a second, I thought you were SERIOUS!

I used to think how awesome a "conversion tool" finding Noah's Ark would be, people in droves flocking to the other ark of salvation, Jesus Christ, but for the last few years I've come to the realization that the world would yawn. No one's mind would change on the subject. Compromising Christians would still say "there's no way Noah could get all those animals on that boat," and the like. Turns out I'm right - and here's Exhibit A - check out these comments on a Christian mag's blog. Even in the face of the possibility, it appears that those who believe the earth is millions of years old, or don't believe that the Old Testament means what it says, still scoff and say "there are still a majority of us Christians who believe in evolution." And so I'm left with two choices, ignore the ignorance or fight the tide, knowing that I can do nothing on my own. As the saying goes, the difference between stupidity and ignorance is that ignorance is curable. However, presuppositions are difficult to change - it took me about 20 years and divine intervention to change mine.
